The Wall Is Up!!!

The wall is up for the construction in my basement. I’m not sure what I have gotten myself into. I am in no way a Finish Carpenter by any stretch of the imagination, but I guess I am going to give myself a crash course.

The problem that I am having is that none of the walls in my basement are square or plumb. As with most things in my house, it seems as though the builder either did everything in a rush or they were not really that good.

The basement in our house was an in-law apartment when we moved in. I had already removed the kitchen area because we had no need for it. This area was used as my office for the past 10+ years.

The other half of the basement was a living room area in which we had a TV and living room furniture for my girls to use when their friends came over. Now that they are both going to be away at college, this would have ended up as wasted space or an area that junk would accumulate.

Now that I have the framing for the wall installed, I can really see how the floor layout will be. My office will now be more organized and finished. With the workshop area, I will now have an area in which I can work on projects and not really worry if I get sawdust everywhere or if I spill something.

My next project is to get the drywall installed. This should be interesting because I have never worked with drywall before. Hey, I never framed a wall either and it came out pretty good.
